There is a reason why these are so highly praised; they are incredibly sharp and handle even very soft leather with ease.
Yes, as the title says, very sharp from the off.
This is the third item I have purchased from Palosanto and have not been disappointed.
The edge beveler arrived in the suggested time via the Royal Mail (UK), the item was well protected with the shaft in a cork sleeve. The first time I used it, wow, so sharp and a pleasure to use.
I’ve tried all of the high end edge beveler’s and these are the best. Edge last a very long time on these. Good quality work with the steel to match
I thought nothing would surprise me in my life anymore, and then I received a shipment from Palosanto factory and our life and work with leather changed completely. The accuracy, sharpness and precise workmanship of the tools from this set was a huge surprise and Palosantos has become my favorite tool brand. I ordered the french edger on july 2nd and I still have nothing in my hands to review as of july 19th. Im sure the edger will be great if it ever arrives but unfortunately slow shipping will affect my next purchasing decision.
I was about to order a couple of edge bevellers and was choosing a wood colour when I realised I’ve never heard about any of those woods before and decided to google them. Turns out EACH wood available to purchase is in an endangered or at least vulnerable category of the IUCN Red List (endangered means “Very high risk of extinction in the wild” and vulnerable is high risk). I realised that while shopping solely for a leather crafting tool I’m also involved in a rare woods trade, which for me is absolutely unnecessary. Presumably most other leather crafters don’t need a wooden handle from an endangered specie either, since we want the best tool for the job, not a rarity ready for a museum. On this note I wish Palosanto would tell more about sourcing of their woods, as well as introduce more common wood choices so that I can have a somewhat clearer consciousness buying them.
Rating of three stars is of no meaning since I made no purchases yet, but I wish to since the tools appear to be very treasured amongst the community for their great quality.
Palosanto’s products are always of the highest quality and the maul is no exception. If you are after tools that will outlast you and give you the result you’re after then you can’t go past these. Also the customer service is amazing. I had a small issue whixh was dealt with quickly and professionally, further reinforcing why you just can’t go past Palosanto tools. Highly recommended.
Incredible quality, but balance is off
The material quality and craftsmanship of this maul are truly incredible; you can immediately tell it is a premium, well-built tool. However, the head arrived slightly off-center. It is a beautiful piece of equipment, but the assembly issue prevents it from being the perfect tool it should be.
I got the 8mm and it's incredibly sharp, well-balanced, and provides excellent control for skiving. The lignum vitae smells amazing :)
Highly recommended for any artisan looking for quality and consistency.
I have been using Palosanto edge creasers in my workshop, and they are truly exceptional tools. The precision and quality are exactly what a leather artisan needs to achieve a perfect, refined finish. They feel well-balanced in the hand and perform beautifully every time. The heat retention is excellent, which allows for more consistent results. Highly recommended for anyone who values true craftsmanship.
Huge shoutout to Palosanto Factory for these tools. The wood slicker has excellent form and function, and the wood grain is stunning. I was expecting red Amboyna, but the gold is beautiful. The wood has a great weight and density to it, and the finish is completely smooth—it leaves a gorgeous, glossy edge with very little effort. When I saw their edge beveler with that pistol handle and silver ring, I just couldn't resist adding it to my order. I’m so glad I did. It arrived crazy sharp and glides through leather like butter. Both tools look like art and work flawlessly.

This awl is gorgeous, sharp, and perfect. Goes through leather like butter. And the wooden handle smells lovely!
Super happy with my bevelers, got three sizes and they just slide on leather super smooth and bevel very easy. I get fantastic results even as a absolute beginner. Highly recommend these. They look fantastic as well and are comfortable to hold even in my very large hands.
I'm very happy with the knife, it's of great quality and is very sharp out of the box. I find it quite easy to sharpen as well to maintain the same level of sharpness. I managed to ruin my knife on my very first cut when I forgot a metal pin inside the strap I was cutting. Contacted PaloSanto and they offered to give me a new knife for free! I appreciate this kindness a lot. I will be a customer for life. Can't recommend enough!
